More empties (Simple, Bio-Oil & Gorgeous by Gok)

Simple Kind To Skin Purifying Cleansing Lotion

Price - £2.99 / 200ml
Where I bought it - Boots
Product link - http://www.boots.com

Claims:

Cleanse drier skin - Keep smooth & softened. Perfect for sensitive skin.

  • 1 Vital Vitamin
  • Pro-Vitamin B5 actively restores, softens and smoothes
  • 2 Skin Loving Nutrients
  • Bisabolol soothes and clams
  • Allantoin softens and protects
  • 0 - No Perfume, No Colour
  • No Unnecessary Ingredients and
  • No Harsh Chemicals so it won't upset your skin
  • Simple skincare contains no animal derived ingredients

It doesn't actually say that it removes make up but it does - use a face wipe (Simple are actually my favourite wipes of all time) and then use a cleanser and toner to get rid of the rest of your make up. Also can be used on a clean face. This is the type of cleanser that doesn't have to be washed off - so you can put a certain amount onto a cotton pad and smooth over face and neck. I would recommend a toner with another cotton pad afterwards if you are to do this.

Packaging -
White plastic bottle (not easily flexible), green snap-close lid with classic Simple green accents throughout the bottle. The bottle isn't the greatest packaging - once you are nearing the end of the amount of lotion it becomes increasingly harder to squeeze out. I ended up wasting a lot of product that I knew was still in there but couldn't reach by cutting the bottle open like I would usually do. The plastic is just way too thick to even attempt cutting it open.

Application -
For best results morning and night, apply to cotton wool and gently cleanse with upward and outward movements. Follow with Simple Soothing Facial Toner.

Texture -
Thick-ish white cream that is easily spread.

Scent -
Light and fresh.

Overall -
I've bought this cleanser a couple of times, along with the matching toner, but only because Simple contains no animal ingredients, alcohol, perfume and all that malarky. I never really researched on my cleansers so it was always a quick purchase and not looking at other options. I now use facial cleansers that you wash off - giving you a much better 'cleanse' and properly ridding makeup. I still use these leave on cleansers when I'm not wearing make up that day, and they do leave you with clean skin.
I may purchase again, but I would like to try something different. I'm actually quite glad I've finally finished it. At the mo I'm using Yves Rocher's cleanser & toner and I quite like them so far.

Clear plastic bottle with white screw on lid. 'Bio-Oil' in italic orange & white font. Large logo in centre. Small opening so not too much product flows out at once. Also good for pin pointing certain areas.

Application / Texture -
Apply twice daily for a minimum of 3 months. During pregnancy apply twice daily from the start of the second trimester.

Scent -
Not bad at first - then I gradually grew to despise it. It's very strong; and lingers after use. They did not need to use such a strong scent. In fact I'd rather it have no scent at all.

Overall -
I have just finished a 60ml bottle. This really isn't enough for me to apply twice daily to all different areas as I have quite a few scars and stretch marks, old and new, all over my body. I decided to take some action, and hearing fairly good reviews I thought I would try the smallest size to see how it went. I have a particularly annoying scar on my eyebrow from an accident that has made my eyebrows uneven and hair doesn't grow where the scar is. I went through this bottle fairly quickly so I decided to buy the largest size; 200ml, to really test out the product.
Whilst using this first bottle I actually didn't stick to the strict rule of applying twice daily. Firstly this is because I would forget / didn't have time / couldn't be bothered and secondly I really didn't look forward to having the greasy & oily feel on my body, especially before bed or in the morning. It says this product isn't greasy, but it is oil after all, and I associate oil with grease and it's a very similar feeling so there ya go. Plus the very strong smell did put me off a little but I just kept thinking it would help my scars, so this got me through my first bottle.
The product is very pricey but if it works I won't mind at all and keep repurchasing. If, at the end of this bottle and I don't notice any considerable different to my scars (using it properly), then I will be very upset and vow never to purchase again.
As you can tell I bought this solely for my scars and stretch marks, however there are other options too such as ageing / dehydrated skin, which is always a good bonus. I might try adding this to a bath or after-sun, if I find it doesn't help my scars.

If you've tried Bio-Oil please do let me know how you got on with it, did it work, was it a waste of time and money? And is there any better items that this to help reduce the appearance of scars? I will certainly let you all know once I've finished my second bottle. Also, the main ingredient in this Mineral Oil. I have heard mixed views on this ingredient and have not yet come to the conclusion of whether it is bad or not.

Gorgeous by Gok Hand Balm

Price - Unknown
Where I bought it - Boots

This hand cream is in Gok Wan's 'Gorgeous' range for Boots. It was one item out of several as part of a gift set that I got for Christmas. It would never be something I'd normally buy for myself, I would go for ones that are generally better for you're skin, and also I'm not the biggest fan of Gok Wan. He's okay, I guess, but I just wouldn't buy a product that's created / promoted or whatever by a celebrity.
Onto the cream itself; it smells like all the rest of the products in the set. Literally, they all smelt the same and to be honest it's not the greatest scent. It's not bad, just not good in my opinion. The cream has a nice consistency, and therefore rubbed smoothly into my hands. It did absorb, it just took it's time. It wasn't a greasy feel; just slightly slimy (?) ... but not in a really bad way. After some time, it soaks in completely. The scent is fairly strong so it lingers on hands pretty much until I next wash my hands. It did make my hands feel 'velvety' soft, but I don't think it gives long lasting protection, as soon as it's washed off thats it.

The photo is obviously not what the tube originally looks like; I've cut off the top to scrape out the last bits. This is because the tube didn't squeeze out all the cream by the end and I hate wasting products. Packaging wise - a bright hot pink tube with a gold snap lid and gold accents printed on the tube. It is a little too much, but I'm not really bothered.

Overall - Meh... This is just pretty average, there is much better hand creams I've tried / want and I definitely won't be repurchasing. Not that I could - as far as I know this hand cream only comes in the sets, and I've looked for the individual price but it's not sold separately. I doubt it would be that much.

I've been using up the last of many products this month so will be doing another 'Empties' post soon!
